Spring is finally here! I’ve already been out on my first run of the season and enjoy seeing green. Spring is a natural time for growth, renewal and regeneration. As buds peak out and the first flowers punch upward from the earth, all of nature comes alive. Just as in nature, spring is also a time to take inventory, renew and regenerate ourselves after the cold winter season. In many traditions there is a focus this time of year to do various types of cleanses. We declutter and clean our houses and spaces, we also need to look inward and do a physical and mental spring cleaning.
For those of you that just finished the 2017 Crossfit Open (I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!) you gained insight into your strengths, into your weaknesses and now have a clearer understanding of what you need to do and to pay attention to for the year ahead to improve your performance. Some of that may be strength, or skills, perhaps your mental game or how to improve recovery. A great way to begin anew with a clean slate for the year ahead (assuming that most of us are not continuing and going to Regionals or Games) is to optimize our Nutrition, and by that, I don’t only mean diet, but also our assimilation of nutrients, our digestion, absorption, the function of our organs, cells right down to our mitochondria.
In Chinese Medicine, spring is a time to support our liver and gallbladder. The Liver is a very important organ. The liver governs blood which nourishes our tendons, ligaments and muscle. Our liver is a major organ of detoxification and metabolism. After nutrients are digested and absorbed in our small intestines they first go to the liver for processing. A poorly functioning or overburdened liver can negatively impact our body in many ways. The liver is also responsible for free flowing emotions. The gallbladder is associated with our will and decision making. So if you are feeling stagnant, have difficulty making decisions or struggle with willpower, often suffer from injuries or are in general not feeling as strong as you could be, feel bloated and inflamed, fatigued, have skin issues perhaps some loving attention to your liver and gallbladder are in order.
I’d like to invite you to a "Clean Slate" - our first annual post-Open 14-day group cleanse!
The cleanse includes:
- a group meeting where we will go over detoxification plan, weigh and measure ourselves

- a short individual visit with me to ensure the cleanse is safe for you and that you will be getting enough nutrients to support your training
Benefits of detoxification and gently cleansing the body by consuming fresh, real foods include:
